Career

Conrad Jr. also joined the hotel business at a young age, to fill the shoes of his father. He started as a low ranked employee in the Hilton Hotel corporation and worked his way up through the company. His father insisted on getting to know all aspects of a hotel and young Conrad received practical experience in each of them.

He oversaw quite a number of those hotel properties and got some involvement in some of the expansion during the 1950s and 1960s. He had a fairly good knowledge of the workings of the hotel industry albeit his talent was never fully realized because of these personal challenges.

Spouse: Patricia McClintock

The only one of the many marriages was rather stable period of Conrad Jr.’s life with Patricia McClintock. Patricia McClintock became his wife in 1958 and the marriage was a period of some stability.

Patricia, whom he married in 1989, gave him some stability and he was able to concentrate at his business and official duties more.

Together they ensured they stayed out of the lime light as his previous relationships were both high profile and the type that did not seem to suit Conrad Jr. during that time in his life. Curtain falls on Conrad Hilton in 1969 which put the final end to a rather complex history of Hilton family.

His life tells the story of the hurdles and disappointments including the role of destiny as a spoilt child of affluent families and the pressure to forge own careers despite the obstacles imposed by wealth.

Conrad Hilton Jr. is still a part of the Hilton family narrative, or at least a part of it which his father probably did not force. The outcome of these experiences was the revision of the strategies for managing the business succession.

These opportunities made the family realize how important it is to stand behind younger generations encouraging them to find a way in life while never losing the bond.
