Suzanne Farrington was most notably known as the daughter of super talented actress Vivien Leigh, the Scarlett O’Hara of ‘Gone with the Wind’. Suzanne followed in her mother’s footsteps but kept an extremely low profile but ensured that she kept her mother’s memory alive until she died in 2015.
Early Life
Suzanne Holman was born in London on October 12th, 1933, and she was fondly christened Suzanne, the daughter arrived at a time when her mother was twenty-two years and a half pregnant. Vivien three daughter including the first born of her marriage to Herbert Leigh Holman, a prominent barrister.
The first years of her life were characterized by changes due to her mother’s growing acting career as well as the declining relationship of her parents. Growing up as the child of one of the most beautiful and famous women in the world was not easy for Suzanne.
As Suzanne grew up, her mother fell in love with Laurence Olivier, and then finally divorced her father, which brought a number of changes into the girl’s life.
Of course, she would experience difficulties in that sphere, but she kept in touch with both fathers and spent time in completely opposite environment. Her father, who is a representative of a stable and conservative legal sphere, and her mother – a representative of a bright and gorgeous theatrical world.
This environment gave her a great opportunity to stay away from the limelight that seems to follow her mother all her life. The school years played a progressively important role in children’s life and contributed to making her reserved, polite, dignified person who did not seek for publicity.
Career
Unlike her mother, Suzanne did not change her career and chose the path in the entertainment industry. This decision stemmed from having a desperate desire to avoid the circumstances of her mother who had become incredibly famous.
Occasionally in the coming decades, Suzanne took part in documentaries regarding her mother’s life with complete revelations about Vivien Leigh’s person and off-camera life but never seeking the Hollywood glamour herself. Her role in these projects was always restrained and maternal, as she portrayed her mother’s lifestyle with sensitivity while also preserving family when telling their story.
Spouse: Robin Farrington
It meant big change in her life and her decision to marry Robin Farrington in 1957 gave her stability and privacy she always dreamt of. Robin – an insurance broker by profession, promised Suzanne the life free from Hollywood and British entertainment business.
They may have married because both like and respected each other and because they didn’t want to formally marry and have a noisy happy life. The couple therein formed a home in Lower Zeals, Wiltshire, and had the issue of three sons.
Their marriage in itself was something Suzanne has always valued it was stable, private, and full of true understanding. Suzanne and Robin developed an affectionate family atmosphere that differed from the chaos of the movie star world which characterized her youth.
